Suzie Mahony is an award winning Irish Milliner based in Loughrea, Co Galway
Magic is most certainly one of the words that immediately comes to mind upon stepping into the studio of talented milliner Suzie Mahony.
According to Suzie, customers often describe their entrance to her studio as akin to “coming into a sweet shop” such is the riot of colour, beauty, flamboyance, elegance and style on display there.
When she returned to Ireland with her family about twelve years ago, after having lived in London for a period, Suzie decided that she would begin dressmaking, which would allow her to express herself creatively as well as work from home in the countryside she adores. But her venture started to evolve in a somewhat unexpected direction when customers for whom she was making wedding outfits requested matching hats and headpieces. Suzie became curious and decided to explore this new creative territory.
After completing a number of millinery courses she immediately fell hook, line and sinker. “I adore it. I love the freedom of design; that you can totally express yourself through the design of a hat. And it developed from there.”
She took the next step by deciding to set-up her own business, Suzie Mahony Designs, which was a daunting prospect, given that she is a mother of three, but Suzie has never looked back since. Suzie’s designs have been featured on many of Ireland’s leading television programs including: RTE Nationwide, Ireland AM and Xpose as well as Glossy Magazines, Bridal Magazines, Newspapers and many Fashion Shows.
